Backpacking Winter Tents
These are the winter tents for camping that still fit a pack. A labeled 2-person tent is the right H3 for one adult plus a winter bag. Do not expect two full winter kits in a 55-inch (140 cm) floor.
GEERTOP 2 Person — best in-stock backpacking pick
GEERTOP 2 Person Backpacking Tent was $94.39 and In Stock on 2026-10-06. The older $117.99 figure on this page was stale. Check price →
The listing describes a double-wall tent, a 210T ripstop polyester rainfly with a PU3000mm coating, taped seams, and an extended snow skirt. Interior size is 82.6 × 55 × 45 inches (210 × 140 × 114 cm). Packed size is 17 × 7 × 7 inches (43 × 18 × 18 cm). Stated weight is 6.9 lbs (3.1 kg). Setup is a two-pole aluminum frame with clips, pitched in 5 to 8 minutes, then freestanding before you stake it.
That floor is two pads wide and not much more. Use it as a solo winter shelter or for one adult and a child. Dual doors and dual vestibules are the reason it beats the cheaper domes for a trail camp: boots stay out of the sleeping area. The mesh panels are still there, so this is not a sealed expedition shell. Owner ratings on the listing sit at 4.6 from 2,535 ratings, which is the deepest sample in this set.
Who it is for: backpackers who want a stocked 4-season shape under $100 without waiting on a scarce mountaineering tent.
Clostnature — lowest in-stock price with snow flaps
Clostnature 4 Season Backpacking Tent was $72.18 and In Stock. The current title says 1/2 person, not a roomy 2-person winter tent. Check price →
Manufacturer text lists PU 5000 on the rainfly, groundsheet, and bathtub, factory-sealed seams, and snow flaps. Interior size is 7 ft 3 in × 4 ft 11 in × 3 ft 10 in (220 × 150 × 115 cm). Total weight is 6.28 lbs (2.85 kg), or 5.33 lbs (2.42 kg) trail weight for fly, inner, and poles. Packed size is 16.5 × 5.9 × 5.9 inches (42 × 15 × 15 cm). Two aluminum poles, two D-shaped doors, two vestibules, 14 stakes, and a pole repair sleeve are in the kit.
The coating number is higher than the GEERTOP’s PU3000mm claim. The floor length is also shorter. Treat the 1/2-person title as the honest capacity. Listing rating is 4.6 from 562 ratings.
Who it is for: a first cold trip or a scout weekend where price and a snow flap matter more than floor width.
OneTigris Stella — lightest in-stock 2-person, higher price
OneTigris Stella was $167.98 and In Stock. The old $84.99 price on this page is stale. Do not budget the old number. Check price →
The listing lists 20D nylon with a silicone coating, a 3000mm waterproof rating, a 40D nylon floor, and a mesh inner. Stated weight is 4.4 lb (2 kg). Setup size is 6.9 × 4.1 × 3.7 ft (2.1 × 1.25 × 1.15 m). Packed size is 19.7 × 5.9 inches (50 × 15 cm). Poles cross at the dome and anchor at four floor corners. The kit includes 10 stakes and four 8.2 ft (2.5 m) guylines. A snow skirt is not in the feature bullets.
At 4.1 ft (1.25 m) wide, this is a narrow 2-person tent. The weight is the reason to pay more than the GEERTOP. Listing rating is 4.6 from 501 ratings.
Who it is for: gram-counting backpackers who accept a narrow floor and a price that jumped well above the old page figure.
Forceatt 2 Person — light aluminum dome, 3-to-4 season wording
Forceatt 2 Person Tent was $75.99 and In Stock. The title says 3 to 4 seasons, not a dedicated expedition tent. The old $62.04 price is stale. Check price →
Listing specs: 5.5 lb (2.5 kg), floor 88.6 × 53.1 inches (225 × 135 cm), height 43.3 inches (110 cm), two D-shaped doors, two vestibules, 7001 aluminum poles, a 3000mm waterproof index, a welded floor, and a full-coverage rainfly. Two ceiling vents sit above a mesh window. The brand claims a 3-minute setup. A snow skirt is not stated.
The floor is longer than the Stella and lighter than the GEERTOP. The season line is softer. Use it for cold rain and light snow, not as a heavy-snow mountaineering tent. Listing rating is 4.6 from 1,977 ratings.
Who it is for: hikers who want two doors under $80 and can stake a tent on ground that still takes a stake.
MSR Access 2 — lightest, only 4 left
MSR Access 2 was $799.95. The stock line was “Only 4 left in stock (more on the way).” That is scarce. It is not widely available. Check price →
Manufacturer bullets name Easton Syclone composite poles, a central-support frame, limited mesh, rainfly vents, an Xtreme Shield coating, and a weight of 3 lbs 10 oz (1.64 kg). Floor dimensions are not in those bullets, so they are not invented here. The listing rating is 3.5 from 5 ratings. Five ratings is not a sample you can lean on.
Buy it only if the weight number is the point and you can accept a thin review count plus a short stock line. If the cart shows a different ship-to than 10001, recheck the price before you order.
Who it is for: fast alpine trips where 3 lbs 10 oz (1.64 kg) beats a $94 in-stock tent, and you can live with only 4 left.
Big Agnes Battle Mountain 2 — only 2 left
Big Agnes Battle Mountain 2 was $563.59. The stock line was “Only 2 left in stock - order soon.” Say that before you plan a trip around it. Check price →
The listing calls it a lightweight mountaineering shelter in high-tenacity polyester ripstop, with two dual-zipper doors, mesh or solid window closures, and two vestibule doors. One vestibule door can be pitched as an awning with trekking poles. Color-coded webbing and DAC oversized twist clips are meant to work with gloves. A packed weight is not in the captured bullets, so none is printed here. Listing rating is 3.0 from 1 rating.
One rating is not evidence of durability. Stock of two is not a replenished shelf. If either fact fails your trip plan, use the in-stock GEERTOP instead.
Who it is for: someone who specifically wants this mountaineering model and can order while two remain.
Unavailable mountaineering names
Hilleberg Jannu had no live Amazon listing in the 2026-10-06 search. The North Face Mountain 25 had no live tent listing. Eureka had no live 4-season or expedition tent listing for a current model. All three are unavailable. No other ASIN is offered in their place.
Car Camping Winter Tents
Car camping is where a 4-person floor earns its weight. You are carrying the bag from a trunk, not over a pass. These winter tents for camping trade pack weight for room.
GEERTOP 4 Person — family car-camp pick
GEERTOP 4 Person 4 Season Tent was $159.99 and In Stock. The old $179.99 page price is stale. Check price →
The listing describes a PU3000mm rainfly, a PU5000mm Oxford floor, taped seams, double-wall construction, and an integrated snow skirt. Interior size in the feature text is 6.9 × 7.8 ft. Complete tent weight is 9.1 lbs. Aluminum poles, two large doors, dual ventilation windows, and a vestibule that can be pitched with trekking poles are listed. The brand frames it for family camping, overlanding, hiking, and mountaineering.
At 9.1 lbs this is a trunk tent. Two adults with winter bags fit more honestly than four adults with four winter kits. Listing rating is 4.3 from 412 ratings. A second New listing was also In Stock at $199.99 that day. The $159.99 figure is the buy box, not every offer.
Who it is for: a family or a couple with bulky pads who camp from the car and want a stated snow skirt.
Forceatt 3 Person — cheaper trunk tent, 3-season wording
Forceatt 3 Person Tent was $69.99 and In Stock. The feature text calls it a 3-season camping tent. Do not read it as a 4-season snow tent. Check price →
Interior size is 90 × 74 × 47 inches (230 × 190 × 120 cm). Weight is 5.5 lb. The rainfly is 210T polyester at PU3000. The floor is PU5000 oxford with thickened corners. Setup is listed as 5 minutes for 1–2 people, with 12 stakes and 7001 aluminum poles. The brand also says it fits a backpack or a car.
The floor is wider than the 2-person backpacking picks, which is why it sits in the car-camping section. The season claim is the limit. Use it for cold rain and above-freezing campground nights, not for a snow load. Listing rating is 4.2 from 89 ratings, a thinner sample than the Forceatt 2-person tent.
Who it is for: car campers who need width under $70 and are not camping in accumulated snow.
ALPS Zephyr 2 — featured offer unavailable
ALPS Mountaineering Zephyr 2 had no featured offer on 2026-10-06. The buy box message was “Currently unavailable.” The offer page pinned text was “No featured offers available.” Third-party New offers are not the same as Amazon in-stock. Do not call this tent well stocked. The old $149.99 price is not a live featured price. Check price →
If a third-party offer is still what you see, read the seller before you buy. The product text itself describes pre-bent aluminum poles, full mesh walls aimed at hot and humid airflow, a freestanding 7000-series aluminum pole set, a 75D 185T polyester rainfly with a 1500mm coating, factory-sealed seams, dual doors, and two vestibules. Full mesh is a summer feature. It is a weak winter default even when a seller has a unit. Listing rating is 4.7 from 471 ratings, which describes the tent’s history, not today’s featured stock.
Who it is for: nobody who needs a guaranteed ship-to-10001 featured offer this week. Keep it on the page only so the stock status is clear.
Hot-Tent Note
One section. Then leave.
A stove jack is a reinforced opening for a stove pipe. It is not a reason to run a canister stove in a sleeping tent. If the tent has no jack, keep combustion outside. Carbon monoxide does not care how cold the night is.
RBM Outdoors UP-2 was $1,599.00 and In stock on 2026-10-06, with a ship note of usually 4 to 5 days. Check price →
The listing describes a double-layer hot tent: outer shell and inner tent with an air gap, an integrated stove jack, and an umbrella-style frame. Capacity is up to 4 people without a stove, or up to 3 with a stove. Fabric lines are Oxford 300 PU 4000 outside and Oxford 210 PU 2000 inside, on an aluminum alloy B95T1 frame. The brand positions it for winter camping, expeditions, ice anglers, and hunters, not for a fast backpack. Listing rating is 4.7 from 34 ratings. A packed weight is not in the captured bullets.
Naturehike Massif is the cheaper in-stock jack on the old page. It was $239.20 and In Stock, down from the stale $269.10 figure. Check price →
Manufacturer text: stove jack, snow skirt, 70D nylon, waterproof rating at least 3000mm, 7001 aluminum cross frame, about 10.47 lbs, packed size 20.5 × 9 × 6.7 inches. It is described as a 2-person tent with a room, hall, and porch, and as usable without the jack. The brand also calls it suitable for motorcycle and car camping. Listing rating is 4.4 from 259 ratings. At 10.47 lbs it is not an ultralight pack tent, even though the bullet uses that word.
If you want a heated shelter, start with the UP-2 and a stove made for a jack. If you only need a windproof sleep tent, skip both and stay in the backpacking or car-camping sections. Warmth still comes from the bag and pad. See how to stay warm in a tent and the winter camping guide.
How to Choose
2-person specs
Use a 2-person label when one adult is sleeping and the second “person” is gear. Floors in this set run about 49 to 55 inches wide (125 to 140 cm) on the tents that publish a width. That is one winter pad, or two narrow pads with no spare room for boots. Put boots in a vestibule.
Published weights for the in-stock backpacking set: Stella 4.4 lb (2 kg), Forceatt 2P 5.5 lb (2.5 kg), Clostnature 6.28 lbs (2.85 kg), GEERTOP 2P 6.9 lbs (3.1 kg). MSR lists 3 lbs 10 oz (1.64 kg) and had only 4 left.
4-person specs
A 4-person label on the GEERTOP is a 6.9 × 7.8 ft floor at 9.1 lbs. That is the car-camping answer for two adults plus winter kits, or a small family if bags are not all expedition-size. The Forceatt 3-person is wider than the backpacking 2-person tents, at 90 × 74 inches (230 × 190 cm), but its own text says 3-season.
The UP-2’s 4-person line shrinks to 3 once a stove is inside. Count the stove as a person.
Insulated tent vs a sleep system
None of these listings is a heated insulated tent by itself. Fabric and a snow skirt slow wind. They do not replace a bag. A double wall moves moist air into the gap between inner and fly. A single wall needs more venting, or a stove that is actually designed for that tent.
Match the bag to the forecast, not to the tent name. Our sleeping bag guide covers ratings. Our tent buying guide covers 3-season shapes if this trip is not a snow trip.
Snow skirt, poles, and vents
A snow skirt is stated for the GEERTOP 2P, GEERTOP 4P, Clostnature (snow flaps), and Naturehike Massif. It is not stated for the Stella, either Forceatt, the MSR bullets, the Big Agnes bullets, or the Zephyr. Do not assume a skirt exists because a title says 4-season.
Aluminum or named composite poles are the winter-relevant pole lines in this set. The Zephyr’s full mesh walls are called out by the maker for hot, humid airflow. That is a reason to pass on it for snow even if a third-party seller has one.
Vents still matter at 10°F (-12°C). Breath becomes frost if it cannot leave. Open the upper vent a little. Keep the stove, if any, in a jacked tent only.
FAQ
Can I use a 3-season tent for winter camping?
Only for mild nights with no snow load. Once snow or hard wind is in the forecast, the 4-season traits above — stronger poles, more fly coverage, less mesh — are the point of this page.
What is a 4-season tent?
It is a tent built to stay up in snow and wind, not a tent with a heater. Compare pole material, fly coverage, mesh area, and whether a snow skirt is actually listed.
How warm does a winter camping tent stay?
It stays less drafty than a mesh 3-season tent. It does not hold a set indoor temperature. The bag and pad do that work. A common planning gap is 10–15°F (6–8°C) between a calm interior and the outside air, and that gap shrinks if you seal every vent and soak the bag with condensation.
Do I need a footprint?
Yes on frozen, rocky ground, and yes under any floor the maker does not describe as heavy oxford. Tuck the footprint inside the fly line.
How do I limit condensation?
Vent high, store wet layers in the vestibule, and do not cook in a non-jack tent. Double-wall tents in this set are the GEERTOP models, the Clostnature, the Stella, and the UP-2.
What size do I need?
One adult with winter gear: a 2-person backpacking tent. Two adults with winter gear from a car: the GEERTOP 4-person, not a 55-inch-wide (140 cm) backpacking floor.
Where are the winter camping tents reviews?
Listing ratings are in the table, with the rating count next to them. Read recent comments on the exact ASIN for zipper and pole notes. The winter camping tents reviews stay on this same page.
What We Did Not Do
We did not camp in these tents for this update. We did not invent a lab snow-load number. Prices, stock lines, and feature claims are from Amazon listings captured 2026-10-06 for ship-to 10001. If the buy box moved, the table is a snapshot, not a promise.
